Once I went to this fabulous little cafe in Marseille, just after the break of dawn, when the streets echoed only with quiet clop-clop of a horse-drawn cart or two, and maybe a moped. Here I had the most completely amazing breakfast -- melted brie cheese inside a warm croissant, a freshly made buttermilk waffle with fruit and whipped cream on top, and a glass of spice goat's milk to wash it all down. Absolutely heavenly. Still my most vivid memory of France. I was there for part of the summer (visiting a relative who ran a print shop in nearby Toulon). I found the little cafe and invited a nice girl I'd met to come have some breakfast with me. For the life of me I can't remember its name.

History remembers the names, I remember the food.
