one for the ladies on the way,
one for the sun at the break of day,
one for the captain of the boat,
one for uncle marley's coat,
one for the road that once was long,
one for the faith that keeps me strong,
one for the shadows that kept me cool,
one for the minister playing the fool,
one for the rat who chewed my shoe,
one for the orphan with nothing to do,
one for the cobblestones in the streets,
one for my mother's pickled beets,
one for the rain and one for the snow,
and one for the soldiers all in a row.
blow out the candles and make a wish,
and hope for a dumpling to fill your dish.
