Despite their rugged appearance, Zip Disks are actually fairly fragile. In particular, they are vulnerable to the "click of death" syndrome. This problem, named for the Zip drive's last-ditch failure recovery method of retracting and then extending its heads, occurs when the Zip media frays and catches on one of the arms holding the heads. This usually bends or breaks the arm, making the drive useless. Worse, the damage is often not easily noticible, resulting in the damaged cartridge being used again on another drive with the same result.
While this problem is fairly rare and Iomega has offered to replace drives and cartridges damaged in this way, entrusting a badly drawn anime character to be sufficiently gentle with your disks is just asking for trouble.
(As a side note, if your Zip drive begins clicking often, it may be a sign that either the drive or the cartridge is about to fail. Be sure to backup up the cartridges' contents.)

Pikachu has been fairly good about handling them safely, except once, when he got stoned out on 'shrooms and Jolt. Luckily I had backed up much of the information, but, unfortunately, my recipe collection was reduced to rubble. Since then, I have banned drugs from his diet and encouraged him to take up yoga.
